By Aaron Humes: Yesterday morning, over half a million dollars in audio recording equipment was turned over to Belize Supreme and Magistrate Courts in Belize City.
The donation is courtesy of the United States-backed Central American Regional Security Initiative and International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (CARSI-INL).
The equipment will allow courts to switch from a manual mode to a digital mode of recording hearings.
In related news, US Ambassador Carlos Moreno informed that they are currently working on an audiovisual connection between courts, police stations and Belize Central Prison.
The aim is to keep certain procedures short, such as indictments, without having to transfer prisoners to court.
